Rooftop addition to an early 19th century house / Completion 1983
This studio addition to a Greenwich Village townhouse provides a light filled workplace for its artist owner only a flight of stairs from home. The high ceiling space adapts to the street front with a sloping skylight that disguises its height. The upper floors of the house were renovated to work with the addition. The original stair design continues to the studio addition, which in the future could be incorporated into the house. A BSA zoning variance was required for the addition.
