Revitalization in an older retail strip / Completion  1996

A former truck showroom structure was successfully adapted to create a new Strauss Auto Store and a second store that added new vitality to an older retail strip along Route 1.

The standard Strauss plan required an 80-ft. wide by 120-ft. deep retail space with an attached 32-ft. by 120-ft. service area.  The existing structure consisted of two arched spaces 80-ft. and 60-ft. wide by 160-ft. deep.  The new plan was achieved by removing the front 40-ft from the existing structure, and adding a new facade and service building alongside. This allowed for a second store 60-ft wide by 120-ft. deep below the smaller arch, and 90 degree parking in front of both stores.  Reuse of the arched structures provided column free spaces for optimum store layouts, and a new structure was desirable for the Strauss high-tech service equipment.
